Every time Apple announces a new countdown, the number gets bigger and more ridiculous. Now, in Apple’s recently announced contest, the number of downloaded iOS apps is approaching 50 billion. That stat that means about seven apps have been downloaded for each person on earth. An impressive statistic to say the least.

If you visit Apple’s website right now, at the bottom you will see the live counter of the number of apps downloaded so far. At the time of this writing, the number is around 49.2 billion, and increasing at almost 1000 per second. As you can see in the feature above, the contest is for a $10,000 iTunes gift card, and each app you have downloaded on your Apple account counts as one entry.

If you want to increase your chances of winning the $10,000 gift card, start downloading as many apps as you can. Also, for those that are Apple geeks, perhaps the better prize is the customary call from Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook.

At the current rate, we should be seeing the winner announced in about 10 days, so stay tuned for news of the winner!
