Debatably the biggest downside of iOS 6 is the incorporation of Apple maps. Previously, the iPhone used data collected by Google a very reputable source at the time. Apple has put a large amount of effort into their new service, however, it just doesn’t cut it. Their software is new and needs time to develop before it can rival competitors like Google. Even Apple acknowledged that the system is not up to par when they featured alternative map applications in the App Store. A few weeks ago Google responded that they are working on an app for the App Store and they claimed that Apple’s change came with short notice leaving them off guard.
Today images were leaked of what appears to be the new Google maps application. The images are very blurry but they give a good idea as to the style of the application. The developer that leaked the photos stated that the application was in alpha stages meaning that a public release may still be a while away considering the time it takes for Apple to approve applications.
